Alan McNiel
First arriving in Solomon Islands in 2004, Alan McNeil has worked for Guadalcanal Provincial Government and Honiara City Council, before starting at Ministry of Lands as an adviser in 2014, then commissioner of Lands from 2018 until present. He is responsible for around 90 staff mainly based in Honiara but also throughout the provincial centres. In his current role, Alan is automatically secretary to the land Board, which makes decisions on allocation of government land throughout the country. The commissioner and the land Board are essentially landlords and gatekeepers of all national government owned land in Solomon Islands.
Alan has a background and qualifications in Survey Drafting, Geographic Information Systems, Urban Planning and International Development. As a Director on the SIACL Board, Alan has an interest in advancing all aspects of the organisation, specialising in land and property management.
