James Apaniai
James Apaniai comes from Malaita Province. He is a lawyer by profession. He was first recruited by the Solomon Islands Government in 1982 as Senior Crown Counsel. In 1984, he was appointed Chief Crown Counsel and in 1985; after undergoing various overseas legislative drafting trainings, he was appointed as Assistant Legal Draftsman. In 1989, he was recruited by Solomon Islands national Provident Fund (SINPF) as legal counsel, Secretary to the Board and Assistant General Manager (Administration). In 1999, James resigned from SINPF and opened his private legal practice. In 2011, James was appointed a High Court judge and later resigned in 2014. In 2015, James was appointed Attorney General in 2019 and went back into private legal practice providing legal services under the James Apaniai Law Chambers. During his term as Attorney General, James was a member of the interim committee overseeing the establishment of SIACL and was instrumental in the incorporation of SIACL as a legal entity and, later, as a State-Owned Enterprise. He was later formally appointed as SIACL Board Director in around 2022 before SIACL commenced formal operations as a State-Owned Enterprise in 2023. Currently, James is a Board Director of Solomon Power and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Solomon Post.
